Questions about fishing!
You might have a few questions while planning a trip to Tagish Lake. Here we address some of the most frequently asked questions. Please don't hesitate to contact us in case your questions have not been answered here. EMAIL
Question: How far is Tagish Lake Wilderness Lodge from the nearest airport?
Answer: The airport is in Whitehorse (YXY) about 120 km (75 miles) from Tagish by road or 85 km (53 miles) by float plane (as the crows fly).
Question: Can we drive to the lodge?
Answer: No, the lodge is only accessible by boat and float plane. The nearest parking lot is in Tagish (27 km/17 miles) from the lodge. From there we pick you up with the lodge boat or you can fly directly from Whitehorse to the lodge.
Question: Do you provide angling equipment or do we have to bring our own?
Answer: We provide fishing rods and casting and trolling reels. Lures and bait are provided too, but if you want to bring your own gear that's fine with us too.
Question: Can we book a package that includes just a 'fish-own-my-own' rate?
Answer: Yes, you can book a package that includes all costs including your stay, boat rentals, fishing gear and so one. Please check our RATES for details.
Question: Do you ask for a deposit to hold the reservation?
Answer: Yes, we ask for a $ 500 US or 20% of the total amount due deposit (non-refundable) to hold your reservation. This can be paid by credit card ( VISA and M/C) or bank transaction.
Question: Is the lodge suitable for physically disabled people?
Answer: The lodge surroundings are NOT suitable for wheelchair use due to tree roots and unpaved paths and walkways. As long as you can pull yourself into a boat, you are fit enough to have a great time out here!
Question: In case we would like to extend our stay at the lodge, can we do that locally?
Answer: Yes, at any time you can extend your stay on a daily or multi-days basis. Just see our RATES list for current pricing.
Question: What kind of fish are in the lake?
Answer: Lake trout, northern pike, Arctic grayling, white fish and burbot (ling cod).
Question: Are there catch limits in the lake?
Answer: Yes, every year Yukon Environment Department publishes a brochure with regulations and catch/possession limits. We will provide current regulations at time of booking. We encourage our clients to safely release most of their catch.
Question: Where can we buy fishing licenses?
Answer: The lodge is eligible to sell Yukon fishing licenses which can be used on both sides of the border (Yukon/British Columbia) of Tagish Lake. For fishing in B.C. lakes, rivers and creeks you have to purchase a B.C. license in Whitehorse.
